Your billing currency isn't tied to your card — it's set by the country of your Primary business address, on the Billing preferences tab of Account settings. That country is your billing country. Get it right and everything presents in one coherent currency — and even if you're billed in USD, a Mexican card or American Express isn't refused: it's automatically charged in pesos.
What your billing country controls
Your billing country — the country of the Primary business address on the Billing preferences tab — determines two things about every new charge: the currency and the tax.
- Mexico → charged in MXN, plus 16% IVA.
- United States and every other country → charged in USD.
- No country on file → charged in USD until you save an address with a country.
It's set on the account, not per-card, and you'll find it under your avatar (top-right) → Account settings → Billing preferences tab → Primary business address.
There's no separate billing-country control — the old Options → Billing country setting is gone, and the country you pick in the address replaced it. The in-app help under that address form says so directly: The country in this address is also your billing country: Mexico → MXN (plus 16% IVA); the United States and everywhere else → USD. Mexican cards and American Express only accept charges in MXN. Your current subscription keeps its currency — the change applies to new charges.
Mexican cards and American Express
Mexican-issued cards and American Express can only be charged in MXN — and IcloneU handles that for you. If your billing country bills you in USD (the United States, or any country other than Mexico) and you pay with one of those cards, the charge isn't declined: it's automatically made in pesos instead — on a + Add units purchase, an Auto top-up, a saved-card payment or a new subscription. In the + Add units popup, the amounts switch to the peso layout and this note explains why:
American Express and Mexican-issued cards are charged in Mexican pesos (MXN). The peso amount shown above will be charged to your card.
You can still see a decline in a handful of fallback cases — for example, if IcloneU can't determine your card's brand and country, or when an existing USD subscription renews against a card that only accepts MXN. Then this message appears:
This card can't be charged in USD. Mexican cards and American Express only accept charges in MXN — change the country in your account settings (Billing preferences tab) to Mexico and try again.
If you hit it — or you'd simply rather see everything in pesos (plus 16% IVA) from the start — the durable fix is to set your billing country to Mexico:
Open Account settings
Click your avatar (top-right) → Account settings.
Go to Billing preferences
Open the Billing preferences tab and find the Primary business address.
Set the country to Mexico
In the address, choose Mexico as the country and click Save. New charges now present in MXN (plus 16% IVA), and Mexican cards and Amex are accepted.
Retry
Retry the renewal or the + Add units purchase.
What changing it does — and doesn't do
- Your existing subscription keeps its current currency — the change applies to new charges only.
- The address is the control: edit the Primary business address on Billing preferences, pick the new country, and click Save. The new billing country is recorded once the address saves successfully — there's no separate setting to update.
- It changes your tax too: Mexico adds 16% IVA.
Frequently asked
Normally it isn't — Mexican cards and American Express only accept charges in MXN, so IcloneU automatically charges them in pesos even on a USD-billed account. If you did see the decline, you hit one of the rare fallback cases (like a USD subscription renewing against a card that only accepts MXN). Change the country of your Primary business address to Mexico under Account settings → Billing preferences and retry.
Set the country of your Primary business address to Mexico (Account settings → Billing preferences). Charges then present in MXN plus 16% IVA. Only Mexico is billed in pesos; the United States and every other country are billed in USD.
Yes — that address is exactly the control. Its country is your billing country: set it to Mexico and new charges present in MXN plus 16% IVA; the United States or any other country bills in USD.
No — your existing subscription keeps its currency. The new currency applies to new charges made after the change (like Auto top-ups and unit purchases).
